Choosing Seeds
Feminized seeds flower and grow weed when they receive less than 12 hours of light per day. Harvest outdoors in fall, or indoors after 15-20 weeks. Professional growers use these.
Autoflower seeds grow small, easy-growing plants that you can harvest in 10-14 weeks. Great for new growers, small spaces, and multiple harvests per season!
How To Germinate
Germination is guaranteed when you soak the seeds in water up to 72 hours in darkness. When it shows a tail, put it in loose soil with fertilizer. Keep it light and damp and a seedling will appear!

Northern Lights is an indica marijuana plant, deriving from indicas in Afghanistan and Thailand. It has led to the development of some other highly popular hybrid strains of marijuana, including Super Silver Haze and Shiva Skunk.
Northern Lights' popularity also comes from the fact that it is just so pleasant to smoke. It smells great, with a sweet and spicy aroma, it tastes excellent, and its effects are relaxing and euphoric.
This review is based on the feminized strain, attributes can slightly differ for autoflowers.
Northern Lights Autoflower Origins
Northern Lights Auto came about from the breeding of an Afghani indica mixed with a Thai sativa, although Northern Lights is about 90% indica dominant. The parent strains were indigenous, landrace strains, making Northern Lights especially prized.
It has been said that the first Northern Lights plants to sprout were actually in Washington state, but officially Sensi Seeds brought the strain out of the Netherlands during the 1980s. It is an older strain that is well established and well loved in the marijuana community.
What are Northern Lights Autoflowers
Once upon a time we only knew Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa plants. These are seasonal plants that start growing in spring and are ready to be harvested when days turn shorter - so towards fall.
Indoor growers learned to imitate nature by manipulating this light cycle.
In the early '80s a third species, ruderalis, was brought to Amsterdam. This plant is a Cannabis relative that was discovered in Siberia. Breeders found that this ruderalis plant would flower after just a few weeks, regardless of light differences. These ruderalis genes were combined with existing indica and sativa strains and the autoflower type was born.
Nowadays you can find autoflower seeds of all sorts of popular strains. They grow smaller plants but they're easier to grow and you can harvest much sooner than with photosensitive plants. Great for new growers, growing in a small space or if you want multiple harvests per season!
Growing Northern Lights Autoflower Seeds
The Northern Lights autoflower strain of marijuana is quite easy to grow, although of course making sure its climate and environment are ideal will help increase the yield to being as high as possible. It is highly resistant to diseases, making for an excellent strain for beginners to try growing.
We advise also reading our germination instructions for guaranteed results.
Preferred Climate
Northern Lights prefers a sunny Mediterranean climate. The plant itself is somewhat a small weed plant and compact (like many autoflowering strains), measuring in at between 24 and 32 inches tall. The flowering period is around 56 days on average, and the yield is fairly high - you can expect somewhere around 5 to 15 ounces of marijuana per plant, depending on if you're an indoor or outdoor grower.
