Golden Pineapple by Green Bodhi
We sat down with Bayes as he shared the story of the cultivar: Golden Pineapple, which is a marijuana plant with a legendary lineage that harks back to classic sativa days, delivering the crisp, zesty, pungent aroma you've been craving.
Golden Pineapple is a cultivar that boasts a legendary lineage that brings you back to the old-school sativa days, bringing that crisp, zesty, and pungent aroma you’ve all been craving. Green Bodhi has lovingly preserved these terps for us all to enjoy again. We kicked back with John Bayes—aka Green Bodhi— as he spun the tale of this Golden Pineapple.
Golden Pineapple’s Origins: Unveiling a Legendary Lineage
In the early 2000s, John was handed a cut labeled simply as “Pineapple.” He assumed it was the Oregon Pineapple that was doing the rounds in Eugene, Oregon, at the time. But when Green Bodhi first grew it out, the plant blew him away:
“I got as a cut, and the first time I grew it out, it was insane. Just huge colas so cracked out, weed like I’d never smelled before.”
Golden Pineapple feminized seeds
Golden Pineapple (White Widow X Cindy 99) is a delightful sativa-dominant hybrid known for its uplifting and energizing effects with a flowering time of 9 to 10 weeks. The creative boost of Golden Pineapple makes it a perfect strain for daytime use, offering a clear-headed high that keeps you motivated, creative and focused.
He knew he had something unique, different from the Oregon Pineapple. After some old-school, pre-internet research, he named his discovery Golden Pineapple after a similar strain in Australia bred by Wally Duck. We had to wait til 2017 when genetic testing by Phylos revealed it was actually a phenotype of Ice Queen, a legendary cross of White Widow and Cindy 99.

If you’re looking for a strain that keeps you sharp and motivated, Golden Pineapple is your go-to:
"It’s got that clear-headed, but still very uplifting, very powerful kind of effect. It doesn’t give you any of that anxiety or paranoia that some sativas can give."
With THC levels ranging from 21% to 25%, this sativa-dominant hybrid is like a shot of espresso for your mind. It delivers an energizing, cerebral high that’s perfect for daytime use, whether you’re diving into a creative project or just need a mood boost. Green Bodhi himself appreciates the strain’s ability to keep him functional and engaged, making it ideal for those who want to stay productive without the racy edge that some sativas tend to bring.
Green Bodhi’s Growing Tips: Harvest Early For a Mood Boost
Golden Pineapple is an easy strain to grow, but it comes with some specific needs. One key factor is managing nitrogen levels—this plant thrives on just the right amount but can stall if you overfeed her, particularly as it approaches the flowering stage. As Green Bodhi puts it,
“The golden pineapple; it can eat a lot, but if you give it too much, it just stops.”
Light management is key for Golden Pineapple, as it’s sensitive to light exposure, which can affect growth and flowering times. John suggests using an organic medium, or as he puts it,
“They will crush conventional grows with readily available nutrients!”
This strain does well in SCROG (Screen of Green) or trellis systems to support its large, dense colas. With a flowering period of 60 to 68 days, John recommends harvesting slightly early to ensure an energetic effect:
“I harvest my crop a little early because I like that high better; some people let it go longer they like that kind of high better, which is fine, but I want to be functional and aware …”
