One of the biggest praises any Cannabis plant can receive is for having a potent high. This is why it’s no surprise that many weed strains are cultivated to become more potent than the last. Do you want to add to the trend? In this blog, we’ll highlight six of the strongest weed strains that you can grow for yourself.
What makes marijuana strong?
The main compound responsible for marijuana’s effects is THC. It is a type of chemical found abundantly in trichomes, the glandular hairs that coat the cannabis plant and its buds. Because of this, many growers look for ways to increase the trichomes on their plants since the more trichomes there are, the more potent the buds become.
There are many ways to increase THC levels in marijuana. One method involves using full-spectrum LED lights. Another involves feeding them the right amount of nutrients in a given growth stage. You can also try stressing the plant to produce more hairs.
However, there’s more to the potency of marijuana than just THC. There’s been a handful of misconceptions that the strongest weed strains have high THC content, and while that statement isn’t wrong, it’s not entirely true either.
Autoflower Super Mix seed variety pack
There's good. There's great. And then, there's super. The strains in this mix pack have earned that title, not just from us, but also from our customers.
Higher THC content doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get a stronger high from it, according to a 2020 study. This proven fact has only served to strengthen a theory that many Cannabis connoisseurs have peddled from one enthusiast to another – the ‘entourage effect’. The theory around it essentially states that the potency of the high you get from weed isn’t just from THC alone but rather a slew of different compounds that play with it.
The entourage effect is a theory that proposes the idea that different compounds in cannabis synergize to alter and even heighten the overall high that it provides. This means you can consume high levels of THC without feeling any of the side effects. The perfect example of this is 1:1 THC CBD strains, which offer little to no side effects but have a host of therapeutic effects, which include a mellow body and mind high.
Chemicals such as terpenes and CBD also affect your mind and body, like THC. On that note, the strongest weed strains for you might just have a relaxing effect on others. This is because we don’t share the same endocannabinoid system. However, the following list is known well throughout the marijuana community as being the strongest strains of weed that any person would have the pleasure of trying for themselves. Continue reading to find out what the highest THC strains in our store are.

How to grow high THC weed
Increasing the amount of THC in your buds requires a couple of things. First, you must grow cannabis from high-quality seeds with good genetics, which you can buy at ILGM.com. You can find all of the above strains in our online store.
Once you have your seeds planted and sprouted, you’ll need to provide them with plenty of light. In particular, a full-spectrum LED light that provides UVA and UVB light will get you the best result. Using the intense ultraviolet light on your cannabis plants will induce them into increasing trichome production, and more trichomes mean more THC.
Additionally, once your plants are in their vegetation stage, it’s wise that you provide them with the right amount of nitrogen and phosphorus, which are the ideal nutrients for increased trichome development. By pre-flowering, you’ll need to focus on the amount of phosphorus more. It’s important to know that nutrients aren’t the lifeblood of your cannabis but rather a means to boost its growth. Careful, though, you can potentially over-fertilize your plants, leading to nutrient burn.
