Mystery Haze (AKA Hazy Kush S1) by Green Bodhi
We recently spoke with Oregon’s legendary breeder, Green Bodhi, to uncover the story behind Mystery Haze, a strain rich in serendipity and intrigue. Bodhi shared why this strain was such a mystery and why it's a must-have for your next grow.
We recently had the pleasure of chatting with Oregon’s legendary breeder, Green Bodhi, to uncover the tale behind Mystery Haze, a strain steeped in serendipity and intrigue.
During our chat, Bodhi explained exactly why this strain is (well, was) such a mystery and why you most definitely want to pick up one of these seeds for your next grow.
Long story short: This cultivar gives you the full Hazy Kush profile Green Bodhi loves, but flowers in a record time of only 8-9 weeks!
“...there hasn't been a strain that stayed in my jar longer than Hazy Kush. It doesn't matter what room I'm doing, what's happening. There will be a plant of that Hazy Kush in every single room.”
Mystery Haze (Hazy Kush S1)
Mystery Haze Feminized seeds
A unique hybrid that perfectly blends the genetics of a local Eugene strain ‘The Dawn’ (Trainwreck x Purple Afghani) with ‘OG Kushage’ (OG Kush x Sage) and 'Golden Pineapple' (White Widow x Cindy 99) in the mix. With a flowering time of 8 to 9 weeks, Mystery Haze delivers a balanced experience that starts with an uplifting mental buzz that keeps you sharp and focused in the right dosage. A powerful strain which at higher dosage can be somewhat overwhelming.

Aroma: Sweet, Hazy Candy
When we asked Bodhi to describe Mystery Haze to us, he pointed to that, in his own words:
“humulene/terpinolene combo that comes from that Hazy Kush lineage” “Those sweet, very candy-like notes that still carry that Haze element.”
We think that perfectly describes the unique charm of Mystery Haze’s terroir*.
*"Terroir" in cannabis refers to how the environment—like soil and climate—affects a strain's flavor, aroma, and effects. It's all about the local vibe the plant picks up from where it grows!
Mystery Haze’s Effect: Keepin’ You Sharp and Functional!
For Green Bodhi, Mystery Haze is his daily driver, keeping him sharp and functional:
“I want to be functional and aware and be able to communicate, talk a lot, you know, be able to smoke weed straight and do stuff,” he explains, underscoring the strain’s knack for boosting productivity without that fogginess.
But take note: Mystery Haze packs a punch! Its potent cerebral effects tend to amplify whatever mood you’re in. Green Bodhi warns, “If you're on a bad one, it'll make you have a bad one,” pointing out the strain’s ability to mirror your mood.
Uncovering The Enigma Behind the Mystery Haze Strain
Mystery Haze started off as a bit of a head-scratcher. It’s a cross involving some of Green Bodhi’s top picks, but during the breeding, a few different males were in the mix, so it wasn’t clear which one actually pollinated the Hazy Kush mother.
Green Bodhi put it simply, “We called it Mystery because I didn’t know which male was the father.”
Thanks to some detective work by Phylos, the mystery got solved—it was definitely a Hazy Kush: a strain that Green Bodhi developed by crossing a local Eugene strain—Trainwreck by Purple Afghani—with The Dawn (OG Kush x Sage). This heritage adds a strong Eugene vibe to the strain, something Green Bodhi was keen to preserve:
“The reason I put that strain ‘The Dawn’ in is because it was a Eugene strain, and I knew genetically no matter what, it would catch that Eugene vibe. Forever. Period"
Green Bodhi’s Growing Tips: Haze Profile Without the Wait
All of Green Bodhi's cultivars, including Mystery Haze, are developed in living soil organic systems, making them surprisingly easy to grow using simple methods. "They will totally crush a conventional grow!" Green Bodhi reassures us.
Mystery Haze thrives with salt-based nutrients. Actually, it flourishes under any condition that offers readily accessible nutrition and produces dense, frosty buds that really show its rich genetic heritage.
Green Bodhi does add a bit of nuance to that, though; while all his strains are user-friendly, growing Mystery Haze demands a thoughtful approach, especially in managing light and heat.
He advises growers to keep a close eye on these factors during weeks five and six of flowering, as the strain is particularly sensitive to high temperatures. Pruning strategies, like lollipopping and removing lower side branches, are crucial to give it the light and airflow it needs, which boosts bud quality like it’s nobody's business. "It’ll grow lower lateral branches; I always start by removing those before I start pinching and scrogging," he explains, just to curb the plant’s stretchy growth.
Mystery Haze also does well with training methods like SCROG (Screen of Green) or using trellises, which are effective at controlling its vigorous growth and maximizing yields. "With a SCROG method, they do amazing," Green Bodhi says, doubling down on how these techniques will net you a robust and productive plant.
