Speedrun Seed’s Magnus Opus: Granite Haze

We got to sit down with Ben from Speedrun Seeds, the man, the myth, the legend, to talk about Granite Haze, Speed Run's crown jewel. With the mission to push the boundaries and views of what autoflowers can do, Granite Haze blows those expectations out of the water.

Speedrun Seed’s Magnus Opus: Granite Haze

Sure to be a beautiful addition to any garden, this plant is a potent yielder that chucks spears like an Aztec warrior. Described as a staple for any breeder’s toolbox, Granite Haze brings a fantastic Hazey forward profile that will bring you back to California in the 1970s.

A Fruity Explosion with a Haze Twist

Picture the spicy earthiness of a Haze, throw it into a blender with gummy worms, passionfruit, and orange blossoms, with a slight dripping aftertaste of skunky gas: That is Granite Haze.

Ben from Speedrun told us:

“It's a super-haze-heavy plant, and most of our stuff falls on the Haze side because I love Haze,”

and in turn, it’s why their fan base of growers loves them too.

An Uplifting High with Balance

Granite Haze will get you the uplifting, creative effects typical of Haze strains but without the jittery feelings sometimes associated with sativas. Coming with a power-packed level of potency, Ben from Speedrun said, "I would say Granite Haze is the magnum opus of what we've done at Speedrun. It’s really balanced and does everything really well. We’ve been able to push this strain over 30% THC; the effects can be quite powerful, both uplifting and relaxing, depending on the user."

Pheno Hunting the Perfect Autoflower

Part of the mission of Speedrun is to find the absolute perfect expression of the genetics they make. With Granite Haze in its 5th generation, it’s more stable than ever before and will give you reliable results. This cultivar comes from crossing a unique plant called Bear’s Breath mixed with a Haze pheno that Ben keeps in his breeding tool chest from a Hubba Bubba Smellosope.

This cultivar comes from crossing a unique plant called Bear’s Breath mixed with a special No-name Haze and Hubba Bubba Smellosope - a pheno that Ben keeps in his breeding tool chest for special occasions.

When it comes to what they look for in their breeding project with Granite Haze, Ben said, "Granite is everything we wanted in one plant… There are strains out there that might be frostier, that might have a better structure, bigger yield, and amazing terpene profiles, strains that do each individual thing amazingly sure.  But I don't think there's a strain out there that hits all of those with such high numbers like Granite Haze. This strain is an all-round winner selected carefully from a huge pheno hunt”

Growing Tips: “Push them hard with nutrients and light.

Growing Granite Haze is a breeze, Ben says, “It's extremely easy to grow. It can have a slow start, which scares people, but I remind growers of what I like to call the rapid vegetative growth stage for autoflowers, which happens after about two weeks. Once the plant kicks into a groove, you get a crazy explosion of growth that goes all the way up until the flowering stage."

Speedrun looks for plants that have the ability to run wild and grow rapidly without needing too much oversight or additional help. Another variable they look for in their plants are ones that can tolerate anything. Whether it’s low humidity, heavy nutrient loads, or heat that would normally kill other genetics, having plants that can take a beating shows how stable the genetics really are.

Coming from team ILGM and Speedrun, I believe the best way to grow Granite Haze is by caring for her and letting her do her job. With Ben and the Speedrun team's testing, you’re sure to have an easy time getting her to full maturity with enough yield (in some cases, getting up to around a pound!) and frost to look like the top of Mount Everest.
